Your REMARQUÉ pieces are made to be worn. How you care for them depends on what they’re made from.
Our collections include 18k gold vermeil, stainless steel, PVD and rhodium finishes, gemstones, pearls, resin and natural stones. Each material responds differently to water, chemicals, friction and everyday wear.
Please follow the care guidance relevant to your piece. The specific materials used in each product are listed on its product page.
18K GOLD VERMEIL
Our gold vermeil jewellery features approximately 2.5–3 microns of 18k gold over 925 sterling silver.
Gold vermeil has a substantially thicker gold layer than conventional gold plating, but the gold remains a surface finish and can gradually wear over time.
The rate of wear will vary depending on frequency of wear, friction, skin chemistry, moisture, chemicals and the environment in which the piece is worn.
Care
Avoid showering, swimming and exercising while wearing gold vermeil.
Keep it away from chlorine, salt water, perfume, sunscreen, lotions, fake tan, hairspray, cosmetics, household cleaning products and other chemicals.
Apply skincare, perfume and cosmetics before putting your jewellery on and allow them to dry first.
Remove vermeil jewellery before sleeping, cleaning or undertaking activities that may expose it to repeated impact, abrasion or prolonged moisture.
After wear, gently wipe the piece with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
For occasional cleaning, use a soft cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water and dry the piece immediately and thoroughly. Do not soak.
Do not use abrasive polishing cloths, jewellery dips, chemical cleaners, steam or ultrasonic cleaners.
What to Expect
Fine scratches, gradual fading or changes to the gold surface and finish can occur through normal wear. The speed at which this happens will depend on how frequently the piece is worn and how it is treated.
PVD GOLD STAINLESS STEEL
Our gold RMQ jewellery is crafted from stainless steel with a Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) gold finish.
PVD creates a durable bonded surface designed to withstand frequent everyday wear. It offers greater resistance to everyday wear than conventional plating, but no surface finish is completely resistant to scratching, abrasion, chemicals or long-term physical wear.
Care
PVD gold pieces described as waterproof can be worn during normal exposure to fresh water, including showering.
Normal exposure to sweat is also suitable for these pieces.
After significant exposure to sweat or other residue, rinse with fresh water where appropriate and dry thoroughly.
To maximise the life and appearance of the finish, we recommend avoiding prolonged or repeated exposure to chlorinated pools, spas and salt water.
Avoid direct exposure to bleach, household cleaning products and other harsh chemicals.
Where possible, allow perfume, sunscreen, lotions, fake tan, hairspray and cosmetics to dry before putting jewellery on.
Avoid scraping the jewellery against hard or abrasive surfaces and repeated friction against other jewellery.
Clean using mild soapy water and a soft cloth, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
Do not use abrasive polishing products, jewellery dips or harsh chemical cleaners.
Waterproof & Tarnish-Resistant Performance
Where an individual product is described by REMARQUÉ as waterproof or tarnish resistant, those descriptions apply to the materials and finish identified on that product page under normal intended wear.
Waterproof does not mean the piece is resistant to every chemical, environment, impact, scratch or form of physical wear. Prolonged or repeated exposure to chlorine, salt water and harsh chemicals should still be avoided unless expressly stated otherwise for that product.
Tarnish resistant means the material or finish is designed to resist tarnishing under normal wear. It does not mean that changes to the surface or appearance can never occur. Exposure to chemicals, environmental conditions, residue, abrasion and the way a piece is worn and cared for can all affect its appearance over time.
RHODIUM-PLATED STAINLESS STEEL
Selected RMQ pieces feature a rhodium-plated finish over stainless steel, giving the jewellery its bright silver-toned appearance.
Like other plated finishes, rhodium is a surface layer and can gradually show signs of wear depending on frequency of use, friction, chemicals and how the piece is cared for.
Care
Clean gently with mild soapy water and a soft cloth where required. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Avoid prolonged or repeated exposure to chlorine, salt water, harsh chemicals, bleach and household cleaning products.
Avoid abrasive polishing products and jewellery dips.
Minimise repeated rubbing against harder jewellery and abrasive surfaces.
Allow perfume, sunscreen, lotions, fake tan, hairspray and other cosmetic products to dry before putting the piece on.
What to Expect
Fine scratches and gradual changes to a plated surface can occur through normal use.
Significant or premature deterioration that appears inconsistent with normal wear may be assessed under our Warranty.
POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL
Selected pieces are made from polished stainless steel without a coloured surface finish.
Stainless steel is durable and suitable for frequent everyday wear.
Care
Normal exposure to fresh water is suitable.
After water exposure, particularly prolonged exposure, rinse with clean fresh water where appropriate and dry thoroughly.
We recommend avoiding prolonged or repeated exposure to chlorinated pools, spas and salt water.
Avoid bleach, harsh cleaning products and other aggressive chemicals.
Clean using mild soapy water and a soft cloth. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Avoid abrasive polishing products unless specifically recommended for the piece.
What to Expect
Polished metal will naturally develop fine surface marks and scratches as it comes into contact with skin, clothing, other jewellery and everyday surfaces.
These changes are part of normal wear and do not necessarily indicate a manufacturing defect.
GEMSTONES & NATURAL STONES
Our jewellery may feature natural or lab-created gemstones as well as natural stones.
Natural stones are individually formed and variations in colour, markings, inclusions, translucency, pattern, shape and surface characteristics are expected. No two natural stones will be identical.
Care
Protect stones from drops, knocks and hard impact.
Avoid harsh chemicals, perfume and cleaning products.
Do not soak natural-stone jewellery for prolonged periods.
Clean gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaning unless it is specifically confirmed as suitable for the stone.
Check stone settings periodically. If a stone or setting appears loose, stop wearing the piece and contact us.
What to Expect
Natural variations in colour, pattern, inclusions, texture and other characteristics are not, by themselves, faults.
Chips, fractures and scratches caused by impact or abrasion can occur after purchase and are different from faults in the construction or setting of a piece.
PEARLS
REMARQUÉ jewellery may include freshwater pearls, natural seed pearls, mother of pearl and shell pearls, depending on the product.
Freshwater, natural seed pearls and mother of pearl are organic materials and naturally vary in shape, size, colour, surface and lustre.
Shell pearls are manufactured pearl components and should also be treated carefully to preserve their surface and appearance.
Care
Put pearl jewellery on after perfume, skincare, sunscreen, makeup and hairspray have been applied and allowed to dry.
Avoid showering, swimming and exercising while wearing pearl jewellery.
Do not soak or submerge pearls in water.
Avoid detergents, jewellery cleaners, acids and harsh chemicals.
After wear, wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and allow the piece to dry completely before storing.
Avoid rubbing pearls against harder jewellery or abrasive surfaces.
What to Expect
Natural variations between freshwater and natural seed pearls are part of the material rather than manufacturing faults.
Where pearls are combined with stainless steel or PVD components, the pearl care requirements apply to the complete piece. Waterproof metal components do not make the pearl component waterproof.
RESIN
Selected RMQ pieces are made from resin and may feature solid, translucent, marbled or patterned finishes.
Variations in colour, marbling and pattern are expected between individual pieces.
Care
Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat and direct sunlight.
Keep resin away from perfume, harsh chemicals, cleaning products and solvents.
Protect it from hard knocks, drops and abrasive surfaces.
Clean using a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
Do not use abrasive cleaners, polishing products or chemical jewellery cleaners.
What to Expect
Fine surface marks and scratches can develop through normal wear. Natural or intentional variations in colour and pattern are not faults.
Chipping, deep scratching or breakage caused by impact, dropping or crushing is considered physical damage rather than ordinary material variation.
ELASTIC JEWELLERY
Selected RMQ pieces use jewellery elastic to provide flexibility and ease of wear.
Elastic is designed to flex during normal use but can weaken through excessive stretching, pulling, snagging and repeated stress.
Care
Gently roll or guide elastic jewellery on and off rather than pulling or stretching it further than necessary.
Do not pull individual beads, stones or pearls away from the strand.
Avoid showering, swimming or prolonged soaking while wearing elastic jewellery.
Keep it away from harsh chemicals, perfume and cleaning products.
Store the piece relaxed rather than stretched around an object.
What to Expect
Some gradual relaxation of elastic can occur through repeated wear.
Excessive stretching, pulling, snagging or other physical damage can cause elastic to weaken or break.
If an elastic component fails prematurely during normal intended use and there is no indication of excessive force or damage, contact us so the piece can be assessed.
MIXED-MATERIAL PIECES
Some REMARQUÉ pieces combine materials with different care requirements.
Always follow the care instructions for the most delicate material in the piece.
For example, a piece containing PVD stainless steel and pearls must be cared for as a pearl piece. A waterproof PVD component does not make attached pearls, natural stones, resin, elastic or other components waterproof unless the complete product is expressly described otherwise.
